Denver Rescue Mission PV System
This 50 kW project was completed in August 2011 atop the Denver Rescue Mission’s The Crossing facility, the main transitional housing center of Denver’s oldest full-service charity. Operating since 1892, Denver Rescue Mission grew from its original role as a soup kitchen and emergency shelter to a catalyst organization in addressing the root causes of homelessness and charity by providing services and rehabilitation program to help homeless families and individuals rebuild their lives and achieve self-sufficiency.
The installed solar infrastructure has resulted in the production of approximately 20% of the building’s current electricity demand. Over a
30-year time span, the gross energy cost savings to DRM is estimated to be over 2 million dollars. Applying these estimated energy savings costs to DRM services, the estimated yearly savings are equal to the cost of providing more than 50,000 additional client meals each year, or 1.75 million meals over 30 years.
The Denver Rescue Mission and TAC have partnered to leverage financial incentives to the maximum extent possible including renewable energy credits (RECs) and the federal Treasury grant.
